TTIC is located on the University of Chicago campus and has a close relationship with the University of Chicago Computer Science Department. The Urbana-Champaign campus was founded in 1867 as the Illinois Industrial University. It was one of the 37 public land-grant institutions created shortly after Abraham Lincoln signed the Morrill Act in 1862. [8] The university changed its name to University of Illinois in 1885, and then again to University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1982.
