Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium (formerly H-E-B Park) is a stadium in Edinburg, Texas. It served as the home of Rio Grande Valley FC Toros of the USL Championship from 2017 to 2023, and currently serves as the home of the UTRGV Vaqueros football team. The stadium has two stands with orange seats covered with a roof and a capacity of 9,735.
The stadium, which opened in 2001, holds 4,000 people, expandable to 14,000-16,000 for concerts and other special events. It includes a 17.8' x 13.6' diamondvision scoreboard and luxury boxes. In 2015, the stadium received major upgrades due to the school officially becoming the owner. New rails and padding for the dugouts were added.
UTRGV has since delayed the start of varsity football to the 2025 season, though it plans to play an exhibition schedule in 2024. The school purchased H-E-B Park – later renamed to Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium – in 2024 to be the primary home of the football team in 2025. Sams Memorial Stadium will also host a game each year. [9]
The UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros football team will represent the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) in U.S. college football as a future member of the Southland Conference in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). They will begin play at that level in 2025, after an exhibition schedule in 2024.
The Vaqueros compete in the Southland Conference since 2025 and play home games at UTRGV Baseball Stadium in Edinburg. They are coached by Derek Matlock . Prior to the merger, UTPA competed in Division I as the Texas–Pan American Broncs , [ 2 ] while UTB, a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics , had no baseball program.
Located on the far east end of the campus, the UTRGV Fieldhouse is among the oldest Division I arenas in Texas. While capacity is officially listed at 2,500, a record crowd of 5,649 jammed the Fieldhouse in 1981 to see the Vaqueros' predecessors, Coach Bill White 's Pan American University Broncos battle Pat Foster 's [ 2 ] Lamar Cardinals .
