Like the Lee and Grant, the British were responsible for the name, with this tank's namesake being Civil War General, William Tecumseh Sherman. The first Marines to use tanks in World War II were patched together US Army M2 light tanks in an ad hoc unit in the Philippines in early 1942, but details are scant.
