The history of shopping malls in Texas began with the oldest shopping center in the United States, Highland Park Village, which opened in 1931 in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. The Parks Mall at Arlington is a shopping mall that opened in 1988 at 3811 South Cooper Street and Interstate 20 in South Arlington, Texas between Fort Worth and Dallas. It went through a renovation in 1996. It is one of the leading shopping destinations in the Metroplex. The Dallas Morning News calls it "An overcrowded entertainment destination".

Forum 303 Mall was a shopping mall built at Pioneer Parkway and SH 360 in Arlington, Texas in the Mid-Cities between Fort Worth and Dallas. The 800,000-square-foot (74,000 m 2) complex was dedicated September 19, 1970. Interesting features of it was that it included a public ice skating rink, and a public amphitheater in the lower level.
