Pensmore. Pensmore is a 72,000 square feet (6,700 m 2) home in the Ozark Mountains near Highlandville, Missouri. One of the largest homes in the United States, it has five stories, contains 14 baths, 13 bedrooms; has exterior walls 12 inches thick, and was designed to survive earthquakes, tornadoes, and bomb blasts.
This house was the home of Joseph Erlanger from 1917 until his death in 1965. Erlanger was an American physiologist and a co-recipient of the 1944 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine . More recently, the house fell into a state of disrepair because its owner was unable to maintain the structure.

This house is one of the oldest houses in St. Louis County, Missouri, and is most likely the last French vertical log house in the area. [3] It is a St. Louis County Landmark.
