For SoftMaker FreeOffice 2018 we need to do the following - select Ribbon interface on first launch . or. You can change the design of the user interface at any time the Options dialog ("Appearance" tab). and then you will get the needed look and feel:
I have installed a closed source office suite called Freeoffice.Generally, I use Libreoffice for all my work and need Freeoffice only as a backup to check if there are any inconsistencies in formatting when i need to edit collaborative docx documents and send them to MSOffice using clients.

Try using SoftMaker FreeOffice instead of LibreOffice. You get it at freeoffice.com, it's a full-fledged, free office suite. FreeOffice has very good import and export filters for Microsoft Office formats, and you should be able to open your docx without formatting losses.

In case you don't succeed with LibreOffice, try using SoftMaker FreeOffice. This free office suite has much better import and export filters that let you run Microsoft Office formats faithfully. The whole office suite is feature-packed, but needs only 58MB. It's well coded, very fast and reliable. Here's the link where to get it: www.freeoffice.com
My personal experience is that the most seamless Ubuntu/Linux integration with full native Linux compatibility is provided by Softmaker Office. Compared to say, LibreOffice, I've found the compatibility w.r.t. Microsoft formats (especially .docx) far superior. The drawback is that you are switching one commercial solution for another.
I have tried to uninstall many apps in terminal because some apps are not shown in Ubuntu Software app. Every time I do this I have to search the Internet because it's hard to know how to write the name of an app in the terminal. For example, FreeOffice's name in terminal is sofmaker-freeoffice-2023, and it is different for other apps.
