In 1959, Williamsburg became part of the South Iowa Cedar League. In 1960, the Hilton School District merged with Williamsburg and the Parnell District closed its high school, but remained independent and sent its high school students to Williamsburg. In 1962, Parnell became part of the district, forming the current boundaries. [7]
The ground was broken for the present library building in October 2004. Funding for the project came from the Friends of the Burlington Public Library Foundation, private contributions raised by a capital campaign, the city of Burlington, a Vision Iowa Grant, and Des Moines County. It was opened for the first time on November 13, 2006.
