A new study ranking the cleanest and dirtiest lakes in the U.S. places three Oklahoma lakes among the top 10 dirtiest lakes in the country.
Observation decks at the lake's visitors center allow guests to view barges and private watercraft as they pass through the lock system on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System. [3] The lock, dam, and reservoir are named after Robert S. Kerr, former governor of Oklahoma and U.S. senator from Oklahoma, who died in 1963.
Daily fishing or boating permits are required for all persons intending to engage in those activities on the lake, regardless of age. Permits are issued by the city of Bixby at the City Hall, and as of 2017 were $5.00 per day or $15.00 per year, with no charge for persons ages 65 years old or over and for children age 11 years old and under.
Lake Lawtonka is a lake in Comanche County in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. [ 4 ] [ 5 ] The lake is 2 square miles (5 km 2 ) in area. It is formed by a dam 60 feet (18 m) and 375 feet (114 m) long across Medicine Creek.
A 1.5 miles (2.4 km) section of Fourche Maline downstream of Carlton Lake Dam to the South Boundary of Robbers Cave Park is listed as a good area for rainbow trout by the blog Troutster. [5] The same blog warns that trout generally fare poorly in Oklahoma summers. The state restocks trout every winter, starting November 1. [5]
The lake is supported by an earthen dam and was constructed in 1964. [2] The lake has a normal capacity of 3,025 acre-feet (3,731,000 m 3), covers 154 acres (0.62 km 2), surrounded by 3.8 miles (6.1 km) of shoreline and has an average depth of 19.4 feet (5.9 m). The lake is operated by the city of Wilburton. It is also used for fishing. [3]
