The Sultanate of the Maldive Islands [2] was an Islamic monarchy that controlled the Maldives for 815 years (1153–1968), with one interruption from 1953–1954.. At the time, the Maldives were a British protectorate. Didi is recognized a reformer and has been described as "the father of the modern Maldives". [1] He was fluent in Dhivehi, Urdu, English, Arabic and Sinhalese. Didi spent most of his life in Egypt. He served as the Vice Prime Minister during his father's time.
He was deposed by the chiefs of that time and his cousin and the eldest son of the former Sultan Ibrahim Nooraddeen was enthroned as Sultan Mohamed Shamsuddeen. Usgekolhu was later completed by Sultan Shamsuddeen. During the rule of Prime Minister Mohamed Amin Didi Usgekolhu was converted into the first National Museum.on November 19, 1952.
