I play in my workshop about forty hours a week making artsy crafty things that I sell at festivals, fairs and farmers markets. I started making toys and they sell very well and are quick and easy to mass produce. I then made some small $100 cedar trunks. They slowly sold but I used the scraps to start making small boxes.

Selling wood turnings... Need help. I would like to start selling my wood turnings. I need help on going rates or values. This is a vase I finished this week and need help on what people think it may be worth. Its made from spalted maple and ebony and took about 10 hours. It is 10 inches tall and 4 inches wide. I would like really honest critics'.
I have found that step stools are very popular. I use the 2x for the sides and a better quality wood for the steps. I dilute some paint (faux milk paint) for the sides and put a nice finish on the steps. Everyone seems to like them and its a great way to use up some scrap.
The ammo storage shelf can be at the top or bottom. Easily movable with a few wood screws. Oak or walnut could be used instead of pine. Instead of a solid door, a panel with either clear acrylic or glass could be used. I bought 10 one by fours, pine, 10 foot long each, for $88.00. I already had enough Luan scraps for the floating panels. Thanks
The demand around here from small grass eating pet owners for small manageable bales is pretty good. People have been asking me to do this for a long time. And then there's the pull from the local farmers' and craft markets in the area who have been asking for mini bales for home decor-whatnot. I cut down a small swath of tall grass last night.
The heater heats the kiln, the heat evaporates the water from the wood, the water vapor is condensed back into a liquid, and the water runs out of a hose to outside the kiln. I monitor the amount of water that is being removed to get a sense of the drying conditions. As to a comparison to a DIY solar kiln, this set-up dries wood much faster.
As an update to my original post, I decided to sell the lathe and invest in other tools for the workshop. Even though it was interesting to learn about the lathe, it is a low priority for me. Sold to make room for a new router table. As a side note, I sold the lathe and related accessories on craigslist and ebay. It all sold quickly.
