Horror Show is the sixth studio album from the American heavy metal band Iced Earth, released June 26, 2001. It is a concept album based on classic monsters and horror-movie icons, including Dracula , Frankenstein , and The Phantom .
Horror Show was also the first Iced Earth album to be partially recorded at Schaffer's home studio "Schaffer Sound". [19] On November 26, 2001 (March 5, 2002, in America) the band released the boxset Dark Genesis, which featured the band's first three albums plus the Enter the Realm-demo, remastered and remixed with new cover art. The original incarnation released two demos in 1985 – Burning Oasis and Psychotic Dreams – before Bateman was replaced by Dave Abell in time for the recording of a third, Horror Show. [2] In 1987, Owen made way for new lead guitarist Randall Shawver. [3] The following year, Purgatory changed its name to Iced Earth. [4]
In 2001, the band released their sixth full-length Horror Show—which reached the top 30 on the Austrian Ö3 Top 40 and German charts—and later that year, the five-disc box set Dark Genesis, which contained remastered versions of their first three studio albums, the demo Enter the Realm, and seventh studio album, titled Tribute to the Gods.
On March 3, 2011, Matt Barlow announced that he will again be leaving Iced Earth after the band finishes its European festival shows, citing his commitment to his family and the need for Iced Earth to tour more as his reasons for retirement. On August 6, Barlow performed his farewell show with Iced Earth at the Wacken Open Air festival. [5]
Prior to the album's release, the tour was named "the most extensive world tour Iced Earth has ever undertaken" [2] and that it would take the band "to countries it has never previously played". [33] [34] The tour featured a total of 133 dates. [33] Iced Earth also recorded a live CD/DVD on August 19, 2012, in Cyprus. [35]
Jon Ryan Schaffer (/ ˈ ʃ eɪ f ər / SHAY-fər; born March 15, 1968) [1] is an American heavy metal musician. He is the rhythm guitarist, bandleader and principal songwriter of the Indiana-based heavy metal band Iced Earth, which he formed in 1985 under the name Purgatory.
Between 1999 and 2004, Christy became a member of Iced Earth and Leash Law, [15] timing his schedule in order to perform in multiple bands at once. [14] In April 2000, he played with Incantation on their tour in support of The Infernal Storm (2000), playing to audiences of several hundred at each show.
