The ideal water potential between fresh water (right) and sea water (left) corresponds to a hydraulic head of 270 metres. Pressure retarded osmosis (PRO) is a technique to separate a solvent (for example, fresh water) from a solution that is more concentrated (e.g. sea water) and also pressurized.
In July 2011, a Dead Sea Protection and Rehabilitation bill was proposed that would regulate the industry Dead Sea Works, as well as a bill that would tax products produced from Dead Sea components. [11] The bill was supported by Gilad Erdan as well as by several members of the Knesset, but did not pass. [12]
The Dead Sea is receding at a swift rate; its surface area today is 605 km 2 (234 sq mi), having been 1,050 km 2 (410 sq mi) in 1930. Multiple canal and pipeline proposals, such as the scrapped Red Sea–Dead Sea Water Conveyance project, [11] have been made to reduce its recession.

The proposed conveyance would have pumped seawater 230 meters uphill from the Red Sea's Gulf of Aqaba through the Arabah Valley in Jordan. The water would then flow down gravitationally through multiple pipelines to the area of the Dead Sea, followed by a drop through a penstock to the level of the Dead Sea near its shore, thence via an open canal to the Sea itself, which lies about 420 meters ...
The brine pumped into the Dead Sea is expected to support a hydroelectric power station, with the installation of electric generators in its path. [ 6 ] Until this desalination plant reaches commercial commissioning, Jordan continues to purchase 100,000,000 cubic metres (1.0 × 10 11 L) of potable water annually from Israel, under previous ...
The Mediterranean–Dead Sea Canal (MDSC) is a proposed project to dig a canal from the Mediterranean Sea to the Dead Sea, taking advantage of the 400 m (1,300 ft) difference in water level between the seas. The project could correct the drop in the level of the Dead Sea observed in recent years.
