A health club (also known as a fitness club, fitness center, health spa, weight room and commonly referred to as a gym) is a place that houses exercise equipment for the purpose of physical exercise. In recent years, the number of fitness and health services have increased, expanding the interest among the population.
It began as the Ralston Health Club, which published Edgerly's writings. It was a hierarchical organization where members were ranked according to the number of "degrees" they had, which ranged from 0 to 100. Members gained in the hierarchy by purchasing and studying Ralston's books, each of which taught five degrees.
YouFit was founded by Rick Berks. [1] The first YouFit, in St. Petersburg, Florida, opened in 2008 [2] and grew to over 100 gyms across the United States. [2] Berks separated from YouFit in May 2020, citing differences with the firm’s financial backers in his resignation letter.

The original Sports Connection clubs were eventually sold, and in 1987 they also opened their first mega club, the flagship Sports Club/LA, investing $30 million. This 100,000-square foot club included a marble lobby, state of the art equipment, full basketball gym, Olympic pool, hair salon, spa and valet parking.
