In 2004, Sailor in a German TV show were named the 45th-most successful pop band of the last 40 years in Germany. [citation needed] A biography of the group by James McCarraher, entitled A Glass of Champagne – The Official Sailor Story, was published in June 2004. Alderton left in July 2005, and Marsh returned to the line-up.
Sailor signed to Epic Records-CBS Records and between 1974 and 1978 released five albums with Kajanus: Sailor, Trouble, The Third Step, Checkpoint (without Pickett) and Hideaway. Kajanus was the lead singer, guitarist and, for the first three albums, the sole songwriter for the band, penning its two major hits, "A Glass of Champagne" and "Girls ...
After Sailor disbanded, he worked with Kajanus on DATA and "And The Mamluks", a short-lived electronic-music project. In 1989 Sailor reformed with Marsh. [4] He left in 1999 but returned in 2005. Marsh's sons, Oliver and Thomas, have also performed with the band in reformed gigs. [5]
Sailor was released in August 1974 by Epic Records. [8] With an accompanying single "Traffic Jam", the album was supported by a series of tours, including a scheduled, but later cancelled concert tour with rock band Mott The Hoople, where Sailor was a supporting act, [8] [7] and a television appearance on BBC Two's music series In Concert, broadcast on 4 September 1974.

Hello Sailor was a New Zealand pop/rock band originally formed in 1975. Although the band formally disbanded in 1980 after just two albums, they have continued to sporadically reunite during the years since; recording a further four albums and performing numerous live tours and appearances.
The band members met whilst studying a Music course at Wigan and Leigh College. When their regular singer fell ill, they recruited young Chorley singer and songwriter James Walsh from a school choir.
