Kimpton is a village in Hertfordshire, England, six miles south of Hitchin, seven miles north of St Albans and four miles from Harpenden and Luton. The population at the 2011 Census was 2,167. The population at the 2011 Census was 2,167.
In May 2018, the hotel was sold to the InterContinental Hotels Group. [13] It was announced in February 2020 [14] that the hotel would be renamed the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in March, as part of InterContinental Hotels Group's Kimpton Hotels brand; however, the hotel was forced to close before the renaming due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The hotel opened a rooftop garden in 1910 and a reception room in 1912, and it became one of many hotels which drew conventions to Alton; a contemporary newspaper account described the building as part of the "greatest improvement in property in the city of Alton". In 1925, new owner E. J. Lockyer renamed the hotel to its current name.
