Don Buddin was the Boston Red Sox starting shortstop from 1956 through 1961, with the exception of the 1957 season, which he spent in military service. Buddin led the American League in errors by a shortstop in 1958 and 1959, and finished third and second in that category in 1956 and 1960.

Buddin became the everyday shortstop for the Red Sox in 1956. He was often the target of vitriol from the Fenway faithful, with his .241 career average and erratic defensive play. It was all cheering on July 11, 1959, when his 10th-inning grand slam home run gave the Sawx an 8-4 win over the New York Yankees.

Buddin started the first game in Colts history and later hit the first grand slam in franchise history but batted .163 in half a season before he was sold to the Detroit Tigers. Buddin passed away on June 30th, 2011 at age 77 near his South Carolina birthplace.
