This school's PTA has a huge budget which allowed them to buy smart boards for all the classrooms. The younger kids get a behavior report sent home if they misbehave. There are no indications of bullying either at the school or on the school bus. This year, they are initiating a STEM (engineering) engineering program.

The French Immersion starts in 1st grade. It is Immersion that is not guaranteed admission in bound. In bound go to Kent Gardens non-immersion, no lottery. If you are out the boundary, your child will go to your in boundary ES for kindergarten and transfer to Kent Gardens if you get in.
French is worthless. Learning reading, math, social studies, and science in french is useless when it comes to taking the SOL's.
The notion that the least affluent school in McLean scores #84 out of over 250 elementary schools in NoVa, however, doesn't strike me as a sign there's a major problem. If all the McLean schools had top test scores, someone else would be complaining that they just "teach to the test."

Most immersion kids come from other elementary schools in the Langley, McLean, and Marshall pyramids. They are there for the immersion program, not to avoid a “bad school.” You could move the French program to a low SES school and then the program would just die or get turned into yet another Spanish immersion program in a few years.

Even without LLIV this year, KG offers an intensive accelerated math and many of the teachers are AAP trained. KG is a STEM focused school. The new principal, Holly McGuigan will be busy this summer reshaping the school (including getting rid of teachers and/or bringing in new ones) after a school year of evaluating all aspects of teaching.
