Hi there, apologies for this probably dumb question from a newbie user but here goes. I was reviewing the flight path of a Virgin VS300 LHR-DEL flight this morning and most of it is shown in yellow (hybrid view) but in a couple of places (half way over the Caspian and over Turkmenistan) it changes colour to pink or grey (apologies I’m partially colourblind) I’m wondering what the change of ...
Looking for some help with a new setup. It’s a pi3. I have an external powered USB hub and in the rasberry I am running AIS-catcher and flightaware. I am receiving AIS data no problem. but ADS-B no luck. It appears to be running: Just no data. I have even switched the receivers used for AIS, switched the ADS-B cable and antenna. I did install the RTL-SDR v4 drivers too. how can I get some ...
CASE-1 Piaware SD Card image written to microSD card (Piaware Image downloaded from PiAware - build your own ADS-B ground station for integration with FlightAware - FlightAware ) (a) In this example gain is set to 30. Instead of 30 use the gain value you want to set (b) Gain is set to 29.7 instead of 30 as shown in last line. This is due to fact that dongle cannot be set to any value, but to ...
Hi I’ve just burned a new SD card with version 3 on it and booted my Pi 3. I run this headless and it needs to connect to my WiFI network so I need to login via ssh to set up the WiFi (I’ve connected a cable temporarily). However, I can’t login to the Pi using the normal user pi password raspberry. What’s the default password for the pi account? Gareth
To use these packages, just follow the existing install instructions at PiAware - dump1090 ADS-B integration with FlightAware - FlightAware – there is nothing additional needed to automatically use the 64-bit packages on a 64-bit OS install. I wrote a new image to my SD card, and now my existing ADS-B site is offline!
The scripts on the github page linked below use source-code from Flightaware to build and install the dump1090-fa, piaware, piaware-web, and dump978-fa packages, matching to your Computer & OS. Please click the link to visit the page and see it in full.
The FlightAware antenna is a passive antenna, looks pretty similar at the same dimensions with the RB antenna. The antenna uses the type N connector, which renders the cable user-replacable. The cable I used is a 5D-FB cable with 3m length, which shows under a dB of attenuation for 1090MHz according to the specifications.

I have my Piaware setup working alongside RTL Airband. For local reasons, I want to capture as much traffic as I can. So, how much am I missing by using 1090 only? Is it worth the extra 75 bucks to get the equipment to capture 978? How many planes are using 1090 vs 978 anyways? If I set it up, will I be able to display the data on the same local page that show the 1090 traffic? Thanks for any ...
I upgraded a couple of Pi’s to 6.0 last month. There was a missing graph I never was really concerned about. Then I added a feeder this weekend and it appears it’s the “gain” graph. Does anyone know how to get that gain graph to populate? I have serialized dongles in the missing graph pi’s if that matters. I thought it might.
