I'm reviving this thread to see if anyone else using flap discs to sharpen mower blades has found a specific brand that provides a superior wear rate-to-price value. Thanks to much of the information posted here and in several other threads on the topic, I've settled on a 4 1/2" diameter T-29 (conical) disc with zirconia or ceramic grit.
By the arguments given in this thread one can also mow a lawn with a scissors for $2.00 but you would have a difficult time making money, you could also use a reel-type push mower for $140, it would be a little better, or a riding mower for $2,000, but naturally lawn care pros use large commercial mowers from $6,000 to $20,000.
I finally talked myself into buying the All American Blade sharpener model 505 found various places for something over $200 but as I was looking up to order I ran across another sharpener that looks very similar for close to $100 less. On Ebay it is listed as "Lawn Mower Blade Sharpener Model 5000 Flexible Arm for Mulching&Standard Blades."
There is a mower blades dedicated professional belt grinder which can sharpen your blade in a few seconds. It is the best system I know (and yes, I know the Magna-Matic sharpeners). If you have to sharpen your blades every morning, I suggest you look into it. That should save you a bunch of time and money.
