Michael Jason Isbell (/ ˈ ɪ z b ə l / IZ-bəl; [2] born February 1, 1979) is an American singer-songwriter. He is known for his solo career, his work with the band The 400 Unit, and as a member of Drive-By Truckers for six years, from 2001 to 2007.
The tribute set included Gillian Welch, Dave Rawlings, Willie Watson, the New Orleans Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Jason Isbell, and several others. Isbell played Dylan's guitar during the tribute set and Newport Folk Festival producer Jay Sweet was quoted as saying "Dylan's guitar is home".
Jason Isbell, formerly of Drive By Truckers fame, often plays Reverend Guitars. Bob Balch, of Stoner Rock band Fu Manchu, Played Reverends on the recording of the two latest albums, We Must Obey and Signs of Infinite Power. Further cementing his credentials as a songwriting force, Jason Isbell and his band have created another Alabama-accented earworm of an album that flaunts the power of his voice, guitar and lyrics.
The album was recorded at Nashville's "historic" RCA Studio A with Americana "super-producer" Dave Cobb, known for his work with Jason Isbell and Chris Stapleton. The album features electric guitar for the first time since 2004 [38] —when David Rawlings added his Telecaster to "Wagon Wheel". [39] Joe Jackson Andrews plays pedal steel guitar. [38]
