Mo.) is the federal judicial district encompassing 66 counties in the western half of the State of Missouri. The Court is based in the Charles Evans Whittaker Courthouse in Kansas City. Despite his dual appointment, Wimes maintains chambers only in the Western District of Missouri.
On May 16, 1991, Gaitan was nominated by President George H. W. Bush to a seat on the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri vacated by Russell Gentry Clark.
