The Chaffey College of Agriculture, founded by the Ontario founders George and William Chaffey, opened on October 15, 1885.The institution, which also had a secondary school, was operated by the University of Southern California until 1901, when it came under the control of the local community and was renamed Ontario High School.
Ironically, the university abandoned the agricultural school while Chaffey was away in Australia, so he pursued litigation and eventually won. [10] In 1901 control of the secondary school was given to the local community and it was named Ontario High School, only to be renamed Chaffey High School in 1911.

USC ran the Chaffey College of Agriculture until financial troubles closed the school in 1901. In 1906, the school was reopened by the municipal and regional government and thus officially separated from USC. Renamed as Chaffey College, it now exists as a community college as part of the California Community College System.

The 1947 Chaffey Panthers football team was an American football team that represented Chaffey College, then of Ontario, California, as a member of the Eastern Conference during the 1947 junior college football season.
