The Cosumnes River is a river in northern California in the United States. It rises on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada and flows approximately 52.5 miles (84.5 km) [ 2 ] into the Central Valley , emptying into the Mokelumne River in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta .
The area was given the name "Flaming Gorge" by John Wesley Powell during his 1869 expedition down the Green River, due to the spectacular, gorgeous red sandstone cliffs that surround this part of the river. [2] The Flaming Gorge reservoir was created by the 1964 construction of the Flaming Gorge Dam across the Green River.
Wyoming Highway 530 begins its south end at the Wyoming-Utah State Line at Utah State Route 43; this near Washam, Wyoming. From the state line, WYO 530 heads north, paralleling the west side of the Flaming Gorge Reservoir and Green River. For this length, the highway is known as West Flaming Gorge Road.

Flaming Gorge Reservoir is the largest reservoir in Wyoming, on the Green River, impounded behind the Flaming Gorge Dam. Construction on the dam began in 1958 and was completed in 1964. The reservoir stores 3,788,900 acre-feet (4.6735 × 10 9 m 3) of water when measured at an elevation of 6,040 feet (1,841 m) above sea-level (maximum).

The refuge includes 36 miles (56 km) of the Green River, which is a water source for shrubs and cottonwoods in an otherwise arid region. The refuge was established in 1965 to mitigate wildlife habitat loss resulting from the construction of Fontenelle Dam upstream and Flaming Gorge Dam downstream on the Green River. [1]
Near Manila, Utah, the river loops back south into Utah, emptying into the Flaming Gorge Reservoir where it joins the Green River. The major tributaries of Henrys Fork are Beaver Creek and Burnt Fork, which both rise in the Uinta Mountains. Water from the river is used primarily to irrigate pasture.
