The Martinis are a rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1993. The band consists of Pixies guitarist Joey Santiago and his wife Linda Mallari. They have released one album under the label Cooking Vinyl, Artist Direct, and Distracted/BMG. Their song "Free" was featured in the movie Empire Records and was on the movie's soundtrack album
Mallari and Santiago continued to write new material as part of the Martinis, but no longer played live. Their debut album, Smitten , took two years to write and was released in 2004; the pair collaborated with a number of musicians, including drummer Josh Freese , during the recording. [ 23 ]

Smitten is the second studio album by American alternative rock band The Martinis. It was released on May 4, 2004 by Cooking Vinyl, remaining as the band's final studio album release. The record is often regarded as similar-sounding to the work by alternative rock band, the Pixies, as the guitarist, Joey Santiago is a member of both bands.

Antonio Martini (b. at Prato in Tuscany, 20 April 1720; d. at Florence, 31 December 1809) was an Italian biblical scholar and Archbishop of Florence. His translation of the Bible in Italian , formally approved by the papacy , was widely used in Italy for about two centuries.
