Heerlen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɦeːrlə(n)] ⓘ; Limburgish: Heële [ˈɦeə˦lə]) is a city and a municipality in the southeast of the Netherlands. It is the third largest settlement proper in the province of Limburg .
