North Dakota State University [ 1 ] Robert E. Hanson (August 26, 1947 – February 4, 2015) was a North Dakota Democratic-NPL politician who served as the North Dakota State Treasurer [ 2 ] from 1979 to 1980 and from 1985 to 1992 and as North Dakota Tax Commissioner from 1993 to 1996.
Richard S. "Rick" Clayburgh (born April 8, 1960) is a North Dakota Republican politician and current director of the North Dakota Bankers Association. [citation needed] Clayburgh was elected as the state's Tax Commissioner in 1996, and re-elected in 2000 and 2004.
Heitkamp served as the 20th North Dakota tax commissioner from 1986 to 1992 and as the 28th North Dakota attorney general from 1992 to 2000. As of 2024, she is the last Democrat to hold or win statewide and/or congressional office in North Dakota. Heitkamp ran for governor of North Dakota in 2000 and lost to Republican John Hoeven.
