The British decimal ten pence coin (often shortened to 10p in writing and speech) is a denomination of sterling coinage worth 1 ⁄ 10 of a pound.Its obverse has featured the profile of the British monarch since the coin's introduction in 1968, to replace the florin (two shilling) coin in preparation for decimalisation in 1971. In 1992 the composition of the 1p and 2p coins was changed from bronze to copper-plated steel. Due to their high copper content (97%), the intrinsic value of pre-1992 1p and 2p coins increased with the surge in metal prices of the mid-2000s, until by 2006 the coins would, if melted down, have been worth about 50% more than their face value. The ten pence (10p) (Irish: deich pingin) coin was a subdivision of the Irish pound. It was used in the Republic of Ireland from 1969 to 2002, [1] with its last minting issue in 2000.
