The Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) is a computerised national identity card issued by NADRA to Pakistani citizens. The CNIC was introduced in 2000 and, by January 2022, over 120 million CNICs had been issued. [8] The CNIC is issued first at the age of 18. [7] Under Pakistani law, it is not compulsory to carry one.
The CNIC database is accessed by 300 public and private service providers, but multiple data breaches indicate inadequate security. [15] In March 2024, it emerged that the sensitive personal data of approximately 2.7 million Pakistanis had been compromised from NADRA's database, notably from the Multan , Karachi , and Peshawar offices.
In October 2003 an important change occurred in the administration of the naval shore establishment with a new command known as Commander Naval Installations Command, (CNIC) was established. The CNIC would provide uniform program, policy and funding management for all Navy shore installations. [2]
