Sequoyah's Cabin is a log cabin and historic site off Oklahoma State Highway 101 near Akins, Oklahoma. It was the home between 1829 and 1844 of the Cherokee Indian Sequoyah (also known as George Gist, c. 1765–1844), who in 1821 created a written language for the Cherokee Nation .
Tenkiller Ferry Lake, also known as Lake Tenkiller, was named after the Tenkillers, a prominent Cherokee family who owned the land in the area. [6] The park was added to the Oklahoma State Park System in 1953, when the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department (ORTD) leased land adjacent to the Tenkiller Ferry Project from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
Greenleaf State Park is located near Braggs, Oklahoma, and is situated around the 930-acre (3.8 km 2) Greenleaf Lake.Greenleaf Lake was built in 1939. [3] There is an 18-mile (29 km) hiking trail that begins inside the park and makes its way around Greenleaf lake and into the adjacent government land of Camp Gruber.
The lake is wholly within Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma's largest state park, containing over 12,500 acres (51 km 2) of relative wilderness. A state-operated lodge and resort is located on the west shore that serves many visitors to the lake, and serves as a base for numerous cabin and campground facilities near the lake. [3]
Roman Nose State Park is one of the original seven Oklahoma state parks. [3] Sitting in a small canyon, recreation activities at this state park include a golf course, swimming pools, hiking trails, two lakes (Lake Watonga and Lake Boecher), trout fishing in season, canoeing, paddle boats, mountain biking, horse stables and hayrides.
McGee Creek State Park is a state park in southern Oklahoma. The park is on the south side of McGee Creek Reservoir, which impounds the waters of McGee Creek. Created in 1985 the reservoir provides flood control. The park is approximately 2,600 acres (1,100 ha) and the reservoir is approximately 3,800 acres (1,500 ha).
