Supriya Kumar Sinha was born on 28 May 1970 to Bengali Hindu [1] parents. His father and paternal grandfather were doctors; his mother was a nurse. [2] He attributes the name Paul to a "misunderstanding with nursing staff" in the newsletter announcing his birth, and says that this name "stuck".
