The Monroe Doctrine Centennial half dollar was a fifty-cent piece struck by the United States Bureau of the Mint.Bearing portraits of former U.S. Presidents James Monroe and John Quincy Adams, the coin was issued in commemoration of the centennial of the Monroe Doctrine and was produced at the San Francisco Mint in 1923.

Mary Galentine Fenner (née, Galentine; May 17, 1839 - July 10, 1903) was an American poet and litterateur. [1] She wrote for the Rural New Yorker before becoming a prolific versifier. She was also involved in the temperance and suffrage movements.

The Coinage Act of 1965, Pub. L. 89–81, 79 Stat. 254, enacted July 23, 1965, eliminated silver from the circulating United States dime (ten-cent piece) and quarter dollar coins. It also reduced the silver content of the half dollar from 90 percent to 40 percent; silver in the half dollar was subsequently eliminated by a 1970 law.
