The Northwest Baptist Convention (NBC) is a group of churches affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention located in the Northwest United States (Washington, Oregon, and the panhandle of Idaho). Headquartered in Vancouver, Washington , the convention is made up of 15 Baptist associations and around 480 churches as of 2010.

Ruckman was the pastor of Bible Baptist Church in Pensacola, and his writings and recorded sermons are published by his Bible Baptist Bookstore. [5] Like his father, Peter Ruckman demonstrated artistic talent early in life, and he often illustrated his sermons in chalk and pastels while preaching. [6]
He was also engaged in pastoral ministry for over forty years. He served as pastor of Independent Presbyterian Church (1951–1954), which later became Northwest Bible Church, pastor of Grace Bible Church (1954–1958), and as an elder and minister at Believers Chapel (1963–1993) all in Dallas. Riley was president of the Minnesota Baptist State Convention in 1944–45. When Riley died in 1947, Billy Graham, whom Riley had chosen to succeed him as president of Northwestern, conducted the funeral services. At Riley's death Northwestern Bible School was the second largest Bible School in the world, with some 1,200 students enrolled.
The education of Northwest Theological Seminary was built on the following principles: the inerrancy of the Bible, the centrality of Christ, the biblical-theological method of teaching the Word of God, the presuppositional apologetics of Cornelius Van Til, the orthodox confessionalism of the classical Calvinistic tradition, and Reformed presbyterianism. The predecessor to the current university was first established in 1902 as the Northwestern Bible and Missionary Training School by William Bell Riley, a pastor at First Baptist Church of Minneapolis. [1] In 1935, the school opened the Northwestern Evangelical Seminary. The College of Liberal Arts was added in 1944.
The beliefs are mainly Baptist and fundamentalist. [9] They refuse any form of ecclesial authority other than that of the local church. Great emphasis is placed on the literal interpretation of the Bible as the primary method of Bible study [10] as well as the biblical inerrancy and the infallibility of their interpretation. [11]
