Baker Hostel is a government hostel located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The hostel was founded in 1910 during the rule of the British Raj by Edward Norman Baker, the then Lieutenant Governor of Bengal. [1] The hostel is located at 8 Smith Lane in Taltala. It is for the male students of Maulana Azad College.
The first National Conference of the Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI) was held in 1956 in Delhi which marked the establishment of the movement on a national level. On 5 October 1970, National Youth Hostel Trust was created through a Resolution passed by the National Council of YHAI, a day earlier.
