Krueger was married to the former Kathleen Tobin of Bandera, Texas, who co-authored the book From Bloodshed to Hope in Burundi, and served two terms as a City Council Member in New Braunfels, Texas, and as Mayor Pro-tem. The Kruegers had three children. In the late 1980s, Krueger and his family were the victims of a stalker.

Petersen founded the magazine and his Petersen Publishing Company was the original publisher. The first editor of Hot Rod was Wally Parks, who went on to found the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). [4]
In a May 1, 1957 article in "The Student" from Warrensburg, Missouri they are quoted to have the mission "To promote a greater understanding between the general public and the hot rodder", they go on to state "We want people to understand that we're not a bunch of greasy hair levis-ed, combat boot boys".

The members of the Road Devils hot rod club are having a party at their usual hangout, "The Shack." Everyone is attired neatly - the men in button-down shirts and sports coats, the women in dresses and sweaters - except for Arny Crawford (Hartunian), the most disliked Road Devil, who is wearing a black leather biker jacket with the club's logo on the back.

Fred tries to talk him out of finding her as it would hurt Ashley's adoptive mother, in reality his aunt, Beryl Peacock (Anny Tobin).
