Herzog was born in 1954 in Toronto, Canada.She studied art at Bennington College (BA, 1977) and Alfred State College (Masters of Fine Arts, 1979). [19] In the 1980s, she worked a variety of blue-collar jobs, including electrician's apprentice, mechanic and construction worker, while producing mixed-media sculpture out of a studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Thornton Dial (28 September 1928 – 25 January 2016) was a pioneering American artist who came to prominence in the late 1980s. Dial's body of work exhibits formal variety through expressive, densely composed assemblages of found materials, often executed on a monumental scale.
The movement's early participants, and its defining artists, have become known as "the big four": Guy Anderson, Kenneth Callahan, Morris Graves and Mark Tobey.Their work became recognized nationally from LIFE magazine's 1953 article Mystic Painters of the Northwest, [1] which featured biographies and works of the four artists.
