Bangla is a folk-rock band from Bangladesh formed by the popular indie musician Shayan Chowdhury Arnob in 1999. Bangla mainly blends the traditional Bangladeshi folk genres like Baul , Lalon together with western flavours like jazz , blues , rock etc. [ 1 ] The band released its first album Kingkortobbobimurho in 2002.
The foundations of Bangladeshi rock started in the 1950s as a fusion of American rock and roll and Bengali classical music. In the 1960s, the Gramophone Company of Pakistan imported many LPs and singles from rock and roll artists like Cliff Richard and the Shadows, Elvis Presley, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys and the Hollies, which sold very well in Bangladesh.
Ark was formed in 1991 in Dhaka City by keyboardist and vocalist Ashiquzzaman Tulu when he met guitarist Pancham, who was playing guitar in the studio.. Ashiquzzaman Tulu was a prominent figure in the Bangladeshi rock music industry in the 1980s and 1990s, who was a founder member of Chime, along with Khalid, Shauqat Ali Emon and aly Sumon (current vocal of Pentagon).
In 2008, a song titled Shopnoghuri was released on the mixed album Rang. They also released their debut album Notun Srot. In 2009, Shunno's second album Shoto Asha was released. The song Shoto Asha from this album became very popular and Grameenphone used the song as the theme song for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. [3] [4]
From 1995 to 1997, the band underwent many changes. Tipu left the band and was replaced by Eamon, Mobin left the band to work as a sound engineer. Eventually, Morshed Baez joined the band as guitarist and vocalist and guitarist Russell joined the band. In 1998, Eamon left the band and Chandan moved to England for higher education for 1 year.

Songs like "Boshe Achi" and "Ekti Chele" were big hits. Warfaze continued working on their following albums – Obak Valobasha , Jibon Dhara and Oshamajik in the '90s. Although at the time, there were few bands who played heavy riffs and solos, but there were no bands who had a singer like Warfaze's first singer, Sunjoy.
The Concert for Bangladesh also features in Sean Egan's 2006 book 100 Albums That Changed Music [157] and in The Mojo Collection: The Ultimate Music Collection. [158] It was ranked number 1 in Spanish Rolling Stone ' s list of "The 30 Greatest Live Albums of All Time", published in 2013. [159]
