In 1976, Brimbank Park opened to the public as part of the Maribyrnong Valley Park, combined with the adjacent Horseshoe Bend Children's farm and Greenvale Reservoir Park. The Maribyrnong River has hollowed out a valley some 55 metres below the Keilor Plain, with a steep bank on the northern side and gentle terraces on the southern side.
The City of Brimbank is a local government area located within the metropolitan area of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. At Keilor the river winds back on itself in a giant horseshoe bend, before winding south again at Brimbank Park. Here the river flows 55 metres (180 ft) below the western plains. Brimbank Park forms a huge amphitheatre in the bend in the river with picnic areas, cycle and walking trails, and a café, that is usually busy on weekends and holidays.

From the north end of Brimbank Park head north on Green Gully Road using the east side service road and then west on the Old Calder Highway using the service road on its south side. At the point where the Old Calder Highway and the Calder Freeway become close to each other, is a side street to the left (west), called Burrowye Crescent.
Horseshoe Bend Farm is a 26 hectares (0.10 sq mi) park in the western suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, adjacent to Brimbank Park on the Maribyrnong River. Formerly a commercial farm, it is now managed by Parks Victoria, but no longer has any livestock. An original 1930s weatherboard cottage still exists on the site.

The route is now sealed along its entirety, with the last unsealed sections replaced in 2008. Along the way it passes CERES, the Brunswick velodrome and the Coburg Lake park. At the Western Ring Road Trail, heading west leads to the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail, Brimbank Park and the Maribyrnong River Trail.
