The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), formerly called An Bord Altranais, is the Regulator for the professions of nursing and midwifery in Ireland.It has a statutory obligation to protect the public and the integrity of the practice of the professions of nursing and midwifery.
The NMBI governs such programmes through its Nurse Registration Programmes Standards and Requirements. Each individual nurse has responsibility for maintaining their own competency, part of which includes being responsible for their own continuing professional development, ensuring their knowledge and skills are up-to-date with changes in practice.
