Clark County lies on the north bank of the Ohio River.A significant gateway to the state of Indiana, Clark County's settlement began in 1783.The state of Virginia rewarded General George Rogers Clark and his regiment for their victorious capture of Forts Kaskaskia, Cahokia, and Vincennes from the British, by granting them 150,000 acres (610 km 2) of land.
It marks the original boundaries of Jeffersonville, and is the heart of modern-day downtown Jeffersonville. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The area is roughly bounded by Court Avenue at the North, Graham Street on the east, the Ohio River at the south, and Interstate 65 at the west. [ 1 ]

Arctic Springs is a neighborhood of Jeffersonville, Indiana, one mile east of downtown Jeffersonville, and directly across from Louisville's famed Water Tower. It was established as a resort area full of summer cottages. The Jeffersonville Elks Club ran a popular outdoor dance hall in the 1920s. [citation needed]
Jefferson was one of the earliest settlements in Clinton County, being laid out and platted before 1829 and situated in the most thickly settled part of the county at that point.
As of the census [9] of 2010, there were 1,203 people, 502 households, and 322 families living in the village. The population density was 707.6 inhabitants per square mile (273.2/km 2).
