The northernmost section of the range is situated in Tatshenshini-Alsek Provincial Park while the southernmost section resides in Glacier Bay National Park, [1] in the Hoonah-Angoon Census Area. [2] In between it goes through the southeastern corner of Yakutat Borough .

Hoonah is the principal village for the Huna Tlingit who originally settled Glacier Bay, Icy Strait, Cross Sound, and the Outer Coast. The four original Tlingit clans present are Chookaneidi, T'aakdeintaan, Wooshkeetaan, and Kaagwaantaan. Numerous other clans migrated to, or married into, the community, as have non-native peoples.
The range spans Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve in the United States and Kluane National Park and Reserve in Canada and includes all of Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska. In Alaska, the range includes parts of the city/borough of Yakutat and the Hoonah-Angoon and Valdez-Cordova census areas. [3]

Hoonah–Angoon Census Area is a census area located in the U.S. state of Alaska. As of the 2020 census, the population was 2,365, [2] up from 2,150 in 2010. [3] It is part of the unorganized borough and therefore has no borough seat. Its largest community is the city of Hoonah.
It is set within Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve and is situated 5.73 miles (9.22 km) southeast of Mount Aleutka. [2] Although modest in elevation, topographic relief is significant as the summit rises from tidewater at Hugh Miller Inlet in less than two miles (3.2 km), and the southwest slope rises 2,150 feet (655 m) in 0.65 mi (1.05 km).
