[1] [2] The coins, which were designed by Benjamin Franklin, were minted in 1776 and examples were made on pewter, brass, and silver planchets. [3]
In 1975 and 1976, the Eisenhower dollar was issued for circulation, among other commemorative coins in those years. The Susan B. Anthony dollar was minted from 1979 to 1981, and then again in 1999. The Dolley Madison silver dollar was available to buy in 1999, made to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Dolley Madison ’s death.
