Sylvia Woods stepped down from the day-to-day operations of the restaurant when she was 80 years old. [1] Sylvia's is currently owned and operated by her children and grandchildren. [1] Her husband Herbert predeceased her, dying in 2001. [1] Woods died on July 19, 2012, at her home in Mount Vernon, New York, at the age of 86. [1]
