Kollam (Malayalam: ⓘ; also known by its former name Quilon [a]), is an ancient seaport and the fourth largest city in the Indian state of Kerala. Located on the southern tip of the Malabar Coast of the Arabian Sea, the city is on the banks of Ashtamudi Lake and is 71 kilometers (44 mi) northwest of the Thiruvananthapuram. [7]

Sambranikodi Island is a landmass situated in the Ashtamudi backwaters of Kollam district, Kerala, India. The island is situated approximately 10 kilometers away from the main city of Kollam. The village falls in the area of ward 13 of Thrikkaruva grama panchayat and is at the southern tip of Prakkulam. [1]

Kollam is the only district in Southern Kerala where Muslims outnumber Christians. Despite this Kollam has a significant Christian population too (16%) among this the Latin Catholics (38.5%), Malankara Orthodox (36.1) and Marthoma Church (15.8%) form the majority. [16]
