Mapeera House is named after Père Siméon Lourdel (1853–1890) M.Afr., referred to in French as Mon Pere and also known as Fr. Mapera. "Mapeera" is the Baganda rendition of "Mon Pere". He was the first Catholic Priest to set foot in Uganda in 1879. [ 3 ]

The lead planning institution is the development of this project is the Uganda Ministry of Tourism, Trade & Industry. Working with those original concepts, the London -based architectural firm Capita Symonds , assisted by the Ugandan firm Plan Systems Limited , drew several architectural designs for the Ugandan government to select from.
