A teleconverter (sometimes called tele extender) is a secondary lens mounted between a camera and a photographic lens which enlarges the central part of an image obtained by the lens. The 400mm f / 4 DO IS II USM, which replaced an earlier version of the same lens in 2014, [3] is one of only two Canon lenses that make use of diffractive optics (the other is the EF 70–300mm f/4.5–5.6 DO IS USM). The use of diffractive optics allows the lens to be significantly lighter than it might otherwise be.
Canon full-frame cameras have used the EF lens mount since 1987. In comparison with that mount, the RF mount's inner diameter is the same at 54 mm. [1] The RF mount's flange focal distance at 20 mm is much shorter than that of the Canon EF and EF-S mounts at 44 mm.
