In 1979, he established the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School. During the 1981-82 Season, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre made its New York City debut and toured to 28 states, Canada and the Virgin Islands. In 1982, Loti Falk was appointed executive director and Patricia Wilde was appointed artistic director – a position she would hold for 15 years.
Today the center is the home of the Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, all of which used to be based at Heinz Hall. The 2,800-seat Benedum Center is a centerpiece of the Pittsburgh Cultural District and is one of the most utilized theaters in the nation today. [citation needed]
The 1987–88 season was the beginning for the second performing arts center to open downtown. The Benedum Center (formerly the Stanley Theater, another once opulent old movie palace) became the new home of the Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, Civic Light Opera and Pittsburgh Dance Council.

The Byham Theater, a landmark building at 101 Sixth Street in Downtown Pittsburgh, was the second major theater venue restoration project of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. Built in 1903, the then called Gayety Theater was a stage and Vaudeville house, and it featured stars such as Ethel Barrymore , Gertrude Lawrence , and Helen Hayes .
Pittsburgh Youth Ballet is an American non-profit organization previously run by former Pittsburgh Ballet Theater ballerina Jean Gedeon. The School was founded in 1983, while the company was established in 1990. PYB alumnae have performed with the New York City Ballet and other professional dance companies. [1]
Classes range from Pre-Ballet through Ballet VII and pre-professional training; pointe, jazz, modern and tap are also offered. Additionally, the School offers creative movement classes to accommodate those with special needs. The School offers annual opportunities for students to audition and perform in The Nutcracker with the professional company.
She is currently the artistic director of the American Ballet Theatre, [1] where she had danced for 22 years and held the rank of principal dancer. She previously served as the dean of the School of Dance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and the artistic director of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. [2] [3]
