History. Established by the Florida Legislature in 1965 as Seminole Junior College, operations began in August 1966 with 700 students. The original campus was situated on an 80-acre (32 ha) site previously used for citrus cultivation in Sanford. [4] In 1975, the institution was renamed Seminole Community College.
By 1933 the Florida State College for Women had grown to be the third largest women's college in the US. It was the first state women's college in the South to be awarded a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, as well as the first university in Florida so honored.
