Savage 12VLP Varmint Series, Bolt Action, .223 Remington, 26" Barrel, 5+1 Rounds 1:7 twist runs around 949.54 sportsman warehouse I know it can be found other places but and come in a 1:9 twist as well. But i like heavier bullets. It's where I bought mine 26" heavy barrel the picture on the site was from another forum.
Apr 11, 2019. #13. It's a bit fast but I've been running a rock creek 1/6.5 twist in a M24 contour specifically setup for the new smk 95gr. If you want to really get the most distance from your 223 the 95gr w/ a G7 b.c. of .310 & velocity of 2675fps keeps a bullet supersonic to 1200+ yrds at sea level.
Sep 29, 2021. #1. Anyone have information on subsonic loads for 223/5.56 using H4895 or other powders with 65gr/69gr/75gr bullets for use suppressed? I know H4895 has been the Military's main powder since WWII and heard that it works well with under charged loads and less than 1,000fps. Trying to get something a little quieter for my 223/5.56 SBR.
Black Hills has their Match 223 Rem loaded with the 52gr SMKs available in boxes of 50 rounds and in 1,000 round cases. I've never seen them in FGMM. In my 52gr SMK 223 Rem handloads, I recently swapped from RL-15 to RL-16 and have had great results. Reloder 16 is way more temperature stable.
May 24, 2016. #14. I generally keep my LR hunting rifles under 5 consecutive shots before allowing my barrel to cool. Depends on the air temperature. I have shot my competition rifles to the point where an egg could be fried on the barrel when it's +85 degrees outside.
It is still all factory except for the trigger weight adjustment to 3 lbs. and I like it a lot. The Left-hand Ruger American 223 Rem I bought for my 6 year old granddaughter shoots better but, for over a third more than the cost of the Compass 223. Both shoot sub-MOA but, the Ruger shoots 1/2 MOA, and for 5 rounds.
Mar 4, 2011. #2. You need to check headspace. If it is to tight you can face off the lugs on the bolt to increase it. You should not have to change it much. If that is not an option you can change the thickness of your recoil lug. If you search remington lugs will vary a little. Timing should be close enough to work.
That is just my best guess. I have a 5.56 chambered bolt action with a 24" barrel and a 5.56 chambered AR with a 16" barrel. The difference in muzzle velocity between the two, using the same load, is around 300 fps. Based on that, I would expect you to lose around 150fps by going to the 20" barrel.
Dec 10, 2010. Messages. 1,022. Dec 3, 2016. #9. Both the .223 and 5.56 are loaded to the same chamber pressure of 55,000 psi, the problem is the 5.56 throat is twice as long as the .223. Meaning when you shoot M855 military ammo in a .223 with a shorter throat the chamber pressure will be approximately 60,000 psi.
89. Feb 2, 2019. #5. My AR-15 has a 1-7" twist. I found that it shoots 60gr Remington HP 223 the most accurately. The caveat being, it's A2 style open sights and I'm shooting prone across a windy canyon at a paper target stapled to a pine tree. That being said, it was shooting about 2" at 230y.
