The church was originally the site of a small oratory dedicated to San Basilio, and built by Camaldolese monks in the 11th century. The original Saint Margaret of Cortona Church was constructed at 3388 Trabue Road. In 1936, the parish hall was built, and in 1955 the rectory finished construction. [3] An increase in the size of the congregation prompted a need for a new church. In 1968, the new church by the same name was constructed at 1600 Hague Avenue.
The veneration of Saint Margaret of Cortona was prominent in Tuscany. The painting was commissioned in 1622 by Nicolo Gerolamo Venuti, whose coat of arms is at the lower left, and decorated at the main altar for the church of Santa Maria Nuova in Cortona. [1]
