Bommer Canyon is an open space preserve in southern Irvine, California featuring hiking and biking trails as well as private event areas. Another hike to the river is much shorter with only 1,000 feet of elevation change to the river compared to 3,000 feet at Toroweap. This trail starts in Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument at Whitmore Canyon Overlook, 9 miles west of Toroweap. It is located in Whitmore Canyon at the overlook on the BLM1045 road.
The trail is accessible by use of U.S. Forest Service roads along the south rim of Grand Canyon. The trailhead is located in a remote area of the park's south rim and is accessible from Rowe Well Road or Forest Service Road #328. It generally takes 1½ to 2 hours to negotiate the 29 mile (47 km) trip from Grand Canyon Village, Arizona.
